oxygev cost & caloric cost
The oxygen cost of performing work (vo2)is dependent upon the work rate. The oxygen cost can be measured through indirect calorimetr in the exercise physiology laboratory and is repoted in absolute (L/min) or relative terms (ml/kg/min). The caloric cost of performing work can be estimated from the measurement of the oxygen cost .One litter of oxygen utilized during exercise is equal to approximately 20kj(5kcal)in energy expenditure.
